No personnel from foreign missions are currently staying inside the army cantonments.
An Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) media release said on August 17.
The release added that as the law and order situation worsened in the absence of the police and other law enforcement agencies after the fall of the Awami League government, various foreign missions based in Bangladesh sought security assistance from the army.
The ISPR release said a significant number of army personnel were deployed to provide security to diplomatic areas and embassies located in Dhaka, and the deployment is still ongoing.
At the Indian High Commission’s request, only civilians were given shelter in cantonments, including Dhaka. Besides, some members staying in their respective consulate buildings and different hotels were given security.
The press release also says that several Russian experts working at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant were given security.
At present, no person from foreign missions is staying inside the cantonments, it added.
