The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has arrested two Indian nationals who entered Bangladesh by breaking through the gate of the Bhomra ICP in Satkhira while driving recklessly. The incident occurred on September 27.
The arrested individuals are Prakash Sarkar, 39, and Dilu Sarkar 20, both from Gauranganagar village in the North 24 Parganas district of India. A case is being prepared against them.
Lt Col Ashraful Haque, commander of the BGB's Satkhira 33 Battalion, reported that the Indian driver and his assistant drove a white pickup truck through the Bhomra ICP and entered Bangladesh.
Naik Md Jihad Hossain was on duty at the check post when a BGB patrol intercepted the vehicle and arrested the two while they appeared intoxicated.
Lt Col Ashraful Haque noted that during initial questioning, the driver and his assistant were incoherent due to their intoxication.
They were subsequently taken to the BGH Satkhira battalion headquarters, where their identities were confirmed as residents of Gauranganagar village.
A flag meeting was held between the BGB's Bhomra Company Commander and the Gojadanga Company Commander of the Border Security Force (BSF) to address the incident.
During the meeting, Subedar Afzal Hossain, the BGB's Bhomra Company Commander, stated that the Indian nationals had crossed the BSF security cordon and forcibly entered Bangladesh by breaking the crossing gate at the zero point of Bhomra land port.
The reckless driving resulted in damage to the crossing gate, three road dividers, a bamboo mill check post gate, a motorcycle, and an easy bike.
In response, Ghojadanga Company Commander AC Nabin Kumar acknowledged that the drivers had consumed excessive amounts of alcohol and had previously damaged several Easybikes in India while under the influence.
He expressed regret over the failure of BSF patrols to engage the suspects due to their reckless speed. The BGB has strongly protested these actions to the BSF.
